2010 Photography 'On A Clear Day I Can See God' While travelling around Australia in a caravan for 10 months I found myself faced with living side by side with the natural world. Camping in areas where there was not another human to be seen or heard. With no TV or Internet on many occasions. I explored empty landscapes and the Australian bush. This work ‘On A Clear Day I Can See God’, presents the sun rise and sunset; a form of ‘energy’ and optical illusion. Light and colour are energy, colour is derived from light. Sunlight, which contains all the wavelengths, consists of the entire electromagnetic spectrum that we depend on to exist on this planet. I came about these ideas by continually reducing my images down to emotions. I would go out and respond, instinctively and emotionally, purposefully blurring and distorting images, to create movement, space, light and emotion. I committed myself to taking photographs that needed no distorting. This developed into searching for natural weather phenomenon that affected me both emotionally and aesthetically; naturally showing tonal colours, light space and movement. I was captivated by glorious sunrises and sunsets most days which released a kind of reflective and meditative feeling . I use the term God as a metaphor in this work. A popular term for a form of reflection and connection to something, that may differ from object reality; whether in ourselves, a deity or the natural world.
